About Me
I am a highly experienced communications, stakeholder engagement, governance and business professional with a career spanning industries and sectors as diverse as media, banking, mining, philanthropy, health and medical research, and creative industries.
An established senior executive who has worked in the private, public and community sectors and on Boards, I am also a mediator, writer, celebrant, wife and Mum to two young adults and two dogs.
I am actively working on spending more time on the things that I love, as well as more time with the people I love.
What does this mean? Well, career-wise my core passions are governance, collaboration and communications (in particular the written word). As a naturally curious person with a lifelong love of learning, I like having fingers in lots of pies and I find human beings absolutely fascinating.
Writing is my superpower, and it represents a full circle for me. I started my career as a journalist, covering sport and business rounds at the Queensland Times, Sun and Sunday Sun, Courier-Mail and Sunday Mail, and The Age newspapers.
A stint as a Senior Business Reporter and Banking Writer at The Age whetted my appetite for the corporate sector, and I moved to ANZ in Melbourne, becoming global Head of Media Relations. This was a fantastic and busy role, at an interesting time in the banking industry.
The West beckoned, and I moved to a Communications Manager role at Hamersley Iron, and then Rio Tinto in Perth, where I went on to be the founding Manager of the Rio Tinto WA Future Fund.
Following many enjoyable years at Rio Tinto, I established my own communications consultancy and worked with a broad range of organisations. I also co-founded Collective Impact WA, helping organisations to collaborate for impact.
I enjoyed a fabulous role at the Minderoo Group as Director Global Engagement before joining the Lions Eye Institute, and then becoming CEO of the Chamber of Arts and Culture WA.
Along the course of my journey, learning has been a priority. I have qualifications from the University of Queensland, the University of Cambridge and Australian Institute of Company Directors and have undertaken short courses with the Australian Stock Exchange and Governance Institute of Australia. I am an accredited Mediator with the Mediator Standards Board, and a Commonwealth-registered Celebrant.
I am driven by my values of kindness, curiosity, collaboration and hard work.
Sometimes I find it challenging to describe my skills and experiences in an elevator pitch. Business strategy, change management, corporate affairs, internal communications, philanthropy, social investment, partnerships, governance, collaboration, mediation, writing and editing, crisis management, issues management, government relations and facilitation might sum me up. I've been a Chief of Staff, Company Secretary, Manager, Head of Department, Consultant, Advisor, Author and Director.
Acknowledgement of Country
